Once the house was back filled and the under-slab plumbing was installed, framing started going up. I’m not going to pretend to know the technical terms, but the wood rail-thing was attached to the basement walls first, and just a couple of hours later, we had the beginnings of our house! The two photos below were both taken on October 9:
Just a couple of days later, we received our usual Friday update from our PM. Framing had indeed started, and by Friday of that week, the outer frame was complete in addition to the start of the roof.
I mentioned in an earlier entry that I was concerned with how the two-story homes would affect the sun shining on our house, but from the view from the street, I don’t think we will have any issues. On a side note, one of the reasons I dislike housing developments is the lack of trees. Trees make the neighborhood seem more homey. Just reflecting on the lack of trees while reviewing these photos has brought the absence of trees to my attention. Each house is supposed to have a sad, little, Charlie Brown tree in each front yard. I’ll have to check next time we visit to see if our neighbors have received theirs…
Mentioning things I dislike about housing developments, the lack of windows on the sides of the house resulting in a solid wall of siding is something of an annoyance. Frankly, we probably won’t even notice when living there, but here’s a good shot of our house from another street.
By the end of the next week (Oct. 19), the framing was completed. In addition to the frame work that was completed during week 4 of construction, roofing, heating, electric, and plumbing work began. Our PM said he wouldn’t take us through the house while framing was in progress, so when it was finished, we immediately requested a walk-through of the house so far. During our visit, workers were finishing up the wiring.
This rest of this post is all photos from that visit. Enjoy
