Rain, Mud, and Construction

Alright, here’s another entry of catching up.

Right after excavation on September 20, we received some rain, but this didn’t really delay things. Our foundation footings were poured before we visited the site on the 25th. I’ve read other Ryan Home builders comment that looking at the footings makes the house seem smaller than it actually is. Because it was so muddy, we didn’t walk around the space, so here’s a nice shot from the front.

You can see the sump pump location and some draining stuff. The large mound of dirt will be our garage. The piles of dirt around the space were huge. Since there’s so little room on the street now, I guess they were forced to pile it up.

After the footings were poured, we received another, larger batch of rain which did delay things several days. Despite the weather, they were able to get the basement walls poured as things dried up later in the week (the 28th) Our PM sent us the photo below.

We did visit the site over the weekend to see things in person. Things were still significantly muddy, so again, here’s a photo from the front, driveway area.

Now we’re really caught up on progress. We swung by our lot again on October 3. There were still people working at our site, so we let them be and simply walked by on our neighbor’s sidewalk. Said neighbor’s house appears to be complete as they received their fully sodded yard and all poured concrete. A nice surprise was the pile of lumber behind our basement walls. Hopefully this means things will really start moving soon (and that the pile won’t be stacked and exposed to the elements for too long).

We received our regular weekly update from our PM on Friday, October 5, along with this photo.

According to his email, our home was back filled, and the under-slab plumbing was installed along with the basement steel. He indicated that the next week (this week) they would pour the basement and garage slabs. Yay!

Estimated completion: Mid- to late-December, around 83 days
