Weeks 8 and 9 of Construction

Back to construction updates. Moving back to the first full week of November (week 7 of construction), the drywall was hung, and the first coat of paint was completed. This might sound stupid, but it’s amazing how different a house can look with drywall. You know, with real walls… Anyway, here are a couple of photos from our PM from the inside.

Because the majority of the outside work is completed, most of the changes from here on are not noticeable from the street. Despite this, there was a slight change in the exterior of the house, we have stone!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I wasn’t sure if the stone would appear more brown than grey, but in this photo and in real life, it doesn’t look bad. The concrete porch was also poured the week before, but the photos didn’t really show that bit. You can see it in the photo above through. Still no driveway…

One of the things I love about our house is the front view. It doesn’t look like much from the street, but this house is quite large with 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. It’s is more than enough for two people and a couple of pets.

When we drove by the house as we usually do on the weekends, the exterior had not changed a whole lot except the framing for the driveway was set and the driveway was graded! Building a house this late in the year and this close to winter, we were afraid that we would be stuck with a gravel driveway. It looks like they are planning on getting the concrete poured soon.

At the conclusion of week 8 of construction, the interior progressed to the installation of the trim and the completion of the electric and plumbing finishes, at least, that’s all our PM shared. The photos he sent us showed a bit more of the obvious additions.

It’s amazing the progress that they make in a week. We have electricity, cabinets, counter tops, and vinyl flooring! I not sure if we had doors before also, but now in the photo above, you can see our little pantry door. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but we’ve never had a pantry, so this little one will be plenty for us. I’m also quite pleased with the cabinets and counter tops. If you remember, we decided to stick with the base package to save some money and the fact that we’ll probably update things in a couple of years or when I get bored, whichever happens first.

Outside looks about the same.

The major difference is the installation of the garage lights on the front. I assume they work now as well as the interior lights. From the photo above, you can see two additional details. The first is the tiny window on the side of the house. Remember I hate the solid wall of siding, but at least with the beaded siding Ryan Homes is using, it doesn’t look like a solid wall of plastic. The second thing to note is the grading of the driveway. I asked during our pre-construction meeting what the grading would be, and we were told no more than 10%. I don’t know how much 10% is, but from this photo you can see that there is a significant angle. We’ll see…

Estimated Completion: December 10, 7 days
